The last of the great-great grandparents. Robert John Christian KLUDAS was born 2 Sep 1852 in Zaatzke, Ostprignitz-Ruppin, Brandenburg, Germany.  He married Marie Koppolw 24 Jun 1877 in Havelburg, Brandenburg, Germany.

They had three kids:

Martha Selma Bertha – b 29 Aug 1877

Ella Marie Sophie – b 30 Nov 1880

Cathe Bertha Emilie – our great-grandmother, b 27 Feb 1885.

Unknown when Robert died.

Marie Emma Bertha KOPPLOW was born abt. 1854.  She died 21 Sep 1890 in Stralau, Berlin, Germany.

James Wiley/Elizabeth Allen

James Anderson WILEY was born 8 Oct 1838 in Noble County, Ohio.  In 1853, his family moved to Prole, Iowa.  He married Elizabeth Allen 22 Oct 1857 in Prole.  James served in the Civil War.  He was a Private, Company H, 34th Infantry Regiment Iowa.  He received a disability discharge in March 1863.  In 1868, the family moved to Nodaway County Missouri; 130 miles southwest of Prole.

James and Elizabeth had eight children:

Mary Marilla, b-1860 in Prole, d-1940 in DeKalb County, MO. Married Thomas Reznor.

Andrew Jackson – b-1864 in Prole. d-1933 in Hopkins, MO.  Married Martha Ingallis.

Lorinda Ann – b-1866 in Prole. d-1941 in Pickering, MO. Married Bayard Wray.

Edward Jonathan – b-1868 in Prole. d-1938 in Pickering, MO. Married Dora Lazenby.

Arthur A. – b-1871 in Nodaway County. d-1958 in Cameron, MO. Married Laura Null.

Jacob Wallis – b-1874 in Pickering.  d-1950 in Pickering. Married Hester Watson.

Luella – b-1876 in Pickering. d-1965 in Pickering. Married William Scott.

James died 19 Jun 1912 in Pickering, MO.  He was 73 years old.  He is buried at White Oak Cemetery in Pickering, MO.

Elizabeth Jane ALLEN was born 21 May 1840 in Harrison County, MO. In 1850, she lived in Polk County, IA.  In 1860, she lived in Warren County, IA.  She died 14 Nov 1931 in Nodaway County, MO.  She is buried with James at White Oak Cemetery.

Andrew Grace/Elizabeth Piant

Andrew GRACE was born 17 May 1844 in Swordlestown, Newbridge, Kildare, Ireland. He and his family came to the U.S. in 1850. He served in the Civil War, Iowa Infantry, 20th Regiment as a 2nd Sergeant.  He married Elizabeth Piant, 23 Nov 1870 at St Ferdinand Catholic Church in Florissant, MO.  He lived at:

1880 – Jackson County, MO

1900 – 4104 Page Avenue

1910 – 4119 Cook Avenue

1920 – 5058 Page Avenue

He was a night clerk and a bookkeeper for a streetcar company.  He and Elizabeth had nine kids:

Andrew died 10 Mar 1927 in St Louis. He was 82 years old.  He is buried at St Ferdinand Cemetery.

Elizabeth PIANT was born 18 May 1851 in Florissant. She died 9 Aug 1914.  She was 63 years old.  She is buried with Andrew at St Ferdinand Cemetery.

James Doherty/Mary Ellen Langan

James DOHERTY was born in 1844 in County Donegal, Ireland.  He lived on the family farm in Drumrooske.

He came to the U.S. in July 1866. He went to work with his uncle at a mercantile store in Mora County, New Mexico.  When is uncle died in 1868, he inherited the business.  It was during this time he changed his last name spelling to Dougherty.

He returned to Ireland to marry Mary Ellen Langan on 9 April 1874, in the Church of St Eunan in Letterkenny.

He returned to the business in Mora County and started a family.  Their kids were:

Charles Patrick, b-1876, d- 1949 in St Louis.

James Francis, b-1877, d-1950 in Denver.

George Paul, b-1879, d-1965 in St Louis.

In 1891, he sold the store to his brother Joe Doherty, and moved to St Louis.  The family lived at 1420 Pendleton Ave. on north St Louis.  James died 23 Dec 1907 at the age of 63 from a heart attack.  He is buried at Calvary Cemetery.

Mary Ellen LANGAN was born Feb 1857 in Letterkenny, Donegal, Ireland.  She died 24 Aug 1892 in St Louis.  She was 35 years old.  She is buried with James at Calvary Cemetery.

Frederick Lipps/Sarah Swan

Frederick John LIPPS was born 15 Aug 1847 in Baden, Germany.  He arrived in the US in 1865.  He was enlisted in the Civil War.  He was a Full 2nd Lt. in the Union Army.  After the war, he was a farmer.  Not sure when he and Sarah were married, but our great-grandfather John Lipps was their first child, born in 1869.  Other children were:

Frances – b 1880, d 1906, married Ignatius Burger

Frank – b 1884, d 1885

Frederick died 8 Jan 1928.  He is buried at Eiseleben Lutheran Cemetery, in Scott City, MO.

Sarah SWAN was born 4 Jun 1849 in Erie County, PA.  She died 27 Sep 1888 in Kelso, MO.

Thomas Clark/Mary Halpin

Thomas Clark was born about 1845 in Ireland.  He married Mary Halpin 24 Oct 1869 at St Edwards Catholic Church in Cincinnati, OH.  He died sometime before 1932

Mary Halpin was born in 1846 in Ireland.  She died 8 Aug 1923 in St Louis, MO.  She is buried at Calvary Cemetery (Lot 000N, Sec 005)

Both were born during The Great Famine in Ireland.

They had three kids:

Mary Clark – b 1880 in Cincinnati.  d-1950 in St Louis.  She married Charles Stewart.

John Blattel – 1874

John Blattel was born 24 Dec 1844 in Elz, Nassau, Germany.  He, and his family, came to the US in 1854.  They settled in Scott County, MO. John was a farmer.  He was a soldier in the Civil War.  He was a Private in the 2nd Regiment, Missouri Light Artillery.  After the war, he married Justina Reiminger on 15 Sept 1868 at St Lawrence Catholic Church in New Hamburg, MO.  They had four kids:

Catherine (b 1870) our great-grandmother

Jacob P. (b-1872) married Mary Agatha Scherer

Anton Francis (b-1873) died in 1873

Justina died in 1879 and John remarried Sophia Bossenmeier 27 Jan 1880.  He and Sophia had nine kids: Charles (1880), Philomena (1882), Andrew (1884), Caroline (1885), Anna (1888), Louis (1890), Albert (1892), Henry (1895) and Benjamin (1899).

As you can imagine, with all of these kids, the Blattel name is still quite common in southeast Missouri.  John Blattel donated the ground for St Augustine Catholic Church in Kelso, MO, where many future Blattel’s were baptized, married and laid to rest.

John Blattel died 31 Aug 1926 in Kelso, MO. He was 81 years old. He is buried at St Augustine Cemetery next to the church.

Justina Reiminger was born 8 Mar 1847 in France.  She arrived, by way of New Orleans, with her family, in 1853.  She died 18 Apr 1879 in Kelso, MO.  She was 32 years old. She is buried at St Augustine Cemetery.

David R Fitzgerald/Mary W Shannon

Now we go to our great-great grandparents.

David Richard Fitzgerald was born in 1835 at Newmarket Parish, County Cork, Ireland.  Not sure when he came to the US, but it was likely in the early 1860’s.  He was  a stone mason.  He married Mary Shannon.  They had eight kids: Johanna (1868), Mary Jane (1872), Anna (1873), Kate (1874), Andrew David (1875), Honora (1877), Richard James (1882) and Charles Francis (1883).  They lived on Division Street in the old Kerry Patch, a few blocks from St Bridget of Erin Catholic Church.  David died 29 January 1891 from bronchitis. He was 56 years old. He is buried at Calvary Cemetery (Sec 011, Lot 0805).

Mary Winifred Shannon was born 15 Mar 1853 in County Mayo, Ireland.  She came to the US in 1862. It appears she was 15 years old when she had their first child, and by age 30, she had eight kids.  The Irish were never known for exact date records, however, her date of birth is probably close to accurate.  David R died in January 1891.  Mary remarried James McCoy 15 Aug 1891. Mary still lived on Division Street when she died 29 May 1913. She was 60 years old. She is buried with David at Calvary Cemetery.

Kids:

Johanna (Annie) married James Crowley in 1885.  She died in St Louis in 1955.

Kate married Edward Donnelly. She died in St Louis in 1922.

Andrew died in St Louis in 1909.

Honora married Thomas J Roche.  She died in Oklahoma in 1943.

Charles Francis married Helen Connors.  He died in St Louis in 1949.

Richard James is our great-grandfather.
