Jean Baptiste CREELY was born 8 Jan 1733 at New Roads, Pointe Coupee, Louisiana. New Roads was established in the 1720’s by French traders. It is one of the oldest communities in the Mississippi River Valley.
He married Angelique LaSonde 2 Sep 1755 at Immaculate Conception Church in Kaskaskia, IL. Kaskaskia, IL is across the Mississippi River from Ste. Genevieve, MO.

Joseph Jacques PAYANT was born 19 Feb 1700 in Quebec, Canada. He married Marie Legris on 2 Nov 1721 at Notre Dame Church.
They lived in a house on Rue St Flavien, near the St Lawrence River, in Quebec City. He was a blacksmith.

In the 1740’s, the Payant family moved to the Richelieu valley. The Richelieu River runs from Lake Champlain to the St Lawrence River.
Joseph Payant owned a ship and some smaller boats. He captained the ship, which was used to transport troops and military provisions on the Richelieu River and Lake Champlain during the French and Indian Wars, between 1756 and 1760. Due to his superior skills on the water he was nicknamed the “Admiral of Lake Champlain“. In August 1760, Payant’s ship was involved in a military defeat at the hands of the British. At 60 years old, Payant decided to retire from navigating the Lake Champlain.
Another 6GG, William Woodford, fought for the State of Connecticut, in the French-Indian War. Interesting we had relatives on both sides.
Joseph died in 1777, in LaPrairie, Quebec. He was 74 years old.
Marie Jeanne Genevieve LEGRIS was born 18 Mar 1699 in Quebec. She died 2 Mar 1753 in Quebec. She was 53 years old.
William WOODFORD was born 13 Nov 1722 in Farmington, CT. He married Susannah Garrett 31 Oct 1745 in Farmington. They had 13 kids in a span of 23 years:

Susannah GARRETT was born 2 Oct 1725 in Simsbury, CT. She died 21 May 1805 in Avon, CT. She was 79 years old.
