Where is Kelso, MO?

Kelso, MO is a village in Scott County.  It is 120 south of St. Louis, 10 miles south of Cape Girardeau.  It was settled in the 1850’s.  Some of the original settlers were distant relatives of our family.  The town is named after I.R. Kelso, an original settler.

The population of Kelso, MO is 593. (2013)  Kids in Kelso attend Scott County Central High School.  Home of the Braves. The school has won 18 Missouri State Basketball Championships.  A Missouri state record.  Otto Porter of the Washington Wizards played at Scott County Central.

Alma Ida

Alma Ida Lipps – b. 6 Jun 1905 in Kelso, MO.  Died 31 Mar 1982. Married David Fitzgerald 6 Feb 1930.

Alma graduated from Fornfelt High School 16 May 1923.  Her last residence was 831A McClaren Ave. in Baden. (North St Louis).  She is buried at Calvary Cemetery.

Where is Fillmore, MO?

Fillmore, MO is in northwest Missouri, 24 miles north of St. Joseph, MO.  It is located in Andrew County.  Census in 2010 showed 184 people.  Not much different from 1914 when Grandma was born (1910 Census, 232 people).

Kids in Fillmore attend North Andrew County High School.  Home of the Cardinals.

Fillmore is named after my favorite U.S. President, Millard Fillmore.  The Post Office has been in operation since 1851.
