William Francis Wiley was born 18 Aug 1858 in Prole, Warren, Iowa.  By 1870, the family had moved to Nodaway County, MO. On 5 Dec 1879, he married Jessie Lavina Cameron. They had three kids: Anson Elvin (1884), Nellie Theo (1892) and Lou Ida (1897).  Jessie died 31 Dec 1909 in Graham, MO.

William married Katherine Kludas 16 May 1911 in Graham, MO.  He was 52 years old and she was 26 years old.  They had two kids: Dorothy Rose (1912) and Mary Helen (1914).

William was ordained a Methodist minister in 1902.  He served the communities of Rosendale, Quitman, Graham, Clearmont, Fillmore, Bolckow, Greentop, Worth, Parnell, Elmo, Atlanta, and Bosworth, all in northwest Missouri.

William died 6 Jul 1928 in St Joseph, MO.  He is buried at White Oak Cemetery in Pickering, MO.  He was 69 years old.

Katherine Kludas was born 27 Feb 1885 in Stralau, Berlin, Germany.  Stralau is a community within the city limits of Berlin.  Her given name was Cathe Bertha Emilie Kludas.  She likely changed it to Katherine when she came to America.  She immigrated to the U.S. in 1903.  She was 18 years old.  She lived in Graham, MO with Frank and Marie(Kludas) Hamm.  Marie was her aunt. Marie had come to the U.S. in 1868, with her brother Herman, who also lived in Nodaway County.  Katherine was a teacher in the community.

After William died, she and her daughters moved to St Louis.  In 1940, she lived at 6031 Juniata.  Katherine died 15 May 1965.  At the time, she lived with Dotty at 709 Nirk, in Kirkwood.

Harry Dougherty/Loretto Grace

More great-grandparents.

Harry John Dougherty was born 8 Aug 1881 in Mora County, New Mexico.  Sometime in the early 1890’s, he and the family moved to St Louis.  They lived at 1420 Pendleton Ave in north St Louis. He married Loretto Grace 12 Sep 1905 at St. Ann Catholic Church.

Some of the addresses he lived are:

1910 – 3505 Taylor, 1918 – 611 St Louis Ave in Clayton, 1928 – 220 W. Monroe in Kirkwood, 1930 – 5150 Cabanne, 1936 – 6648 Marmaduke, 1947 – 4722 Tamm, 1952 – 4629 Minnesota, and finally at 6305 Murdoch.

Harry died 26 Nov 1960.  He was 79 years old. He is buried at Calvary Cemetery at the family plot.

Loretto Gertrude Grace was born 17 Sep 1882 in Florissant, MO.  She was baptized at St. Ferdinand Catholic Church.

In 1900, she lived at 104 Page Avenue.  She died 14 Jan 1949. She was 66 years old. They lived at 5906 Loughborough at the time.  She is buried at Calvary Cemetery with Harry.

They had seven kids: Harry Aloysius, James Andrew, Mary Elizabeth, Loretto Louise, Gertrude Grace, Eileen Clare and Charles Joseph.

 

 

John Lipps and Catherine Blattel

Alma’s parents were John and Catherine, our great-grandparents.

John Lipps was born 15 Nov 1869 in Kelso, MO.  He married Catherine Blattel 22 Nov 1892 at St Augustine Catholic Church in Kelso.

John was a farmer and for years he worked as a machinist/inspector for the Cotton Belt Railroad.  He retired from the railroad in 1937.

John died 18 Jul 1962 in Cape Girardeau, MO. He was 92 years old.  He is buried at St Joseph Cemetery in Scott City, MO.

Catherine Blattel was born 21 Sep 1870 in New Hamburg, MO.  She died 2 May 1958 in Cape Girardeau.  She was 87 years old.  She is buried with John.

Rose M Clark

Our great-grandmother Rose Mary Clark was born 19 Jan 1884 in Cincinnati, Ohio.  Not sure how she made it to St Louis, but she is in the 1900 census at 1929 Carr Street.  She is listed as a servant.

She married Richard Fitzgerald 12 Jun 1902 in Clayton.  He died in 1935.

In 1936, Rose obtained her social security number.  She lived at 2577 Warren.  She was employed by Mermod Jaccard King at 10th and Locust.

Rose died 20 Apr 1967. She was 83 years old.  She is buried at Calvary Cemetery with her husband and family.

Richard James Fitzgerald

Now we go to the great-grandparents.

Richard James Fitzgerald, born 19 Jan 1882 in St Louis.  He lived at 2313 Division St.  He was baptized at St Bridget of Erin Catholic Church on 1 Feb 1882.

He married Rose Clark on 12 Jun 1902 in Clayton.  In 1910, they lived at 2229 Eugenia, right behind present day Union Station. In 1920, they lived at 2221A Madison St.  In 1935, when he died, he lived at 2577A Warren.  Every place they lived, they rented.

Their children were: David R (Dad’s father), Rose M. and Margaret M.

His occupation was an “edge setter” at a shoe factory.  As you know, an edge setter is the person who shapes the edges of heel lifts and shoe soles.

He died 9 Jul 1935.  53 years old.  He is buried at Calvary Cemetery, Section 025, Lot 677.

I have pictures of all of our great-grandparents, except Richard and Rose.  Have to work on that.
